GOP Spin Alert!: Social Programs In France "Proven Useless" (!!!)

I'm watching Karen Hughes, Ed Royce, and others on CSPAN talking about "Perception of the US in the Arab world" (Boy, do they NOT get it. To THEM, the way the rest of the world sees the US as dishonest and arrogant is basically an 'image problem'!

But buried in this fascinating exercise in damage control and finely tuned bullshit was a thread in which the wingers were trying to say that the rioters in France are a demonstration that social programs, spending money on education, health, a pension program, etc. 'don't work' (is their - the social programs, schools, old age care - ONLY goal, in these idiots eyes, to prevent desperate, fairly extremist KIDS from rioting, to BUY OFF the POOR? --- NOT improving health, preventing homelessness, curing disease, etc? Seems so! MY GOD. Where did we get these people?)
Let me repeat this.. What they are trying to say is that we shouldn't spend ANY money on government services of ANY kind, because the money is 'wasted' if people aren't uniformly grateful.. and subservient.. EVEN if they don't have any real chances in life and can't move up and out no matter how hard they try.. They are predestined to be poor, forever, for generations, because some distant relative was an immigrant! THINK ABOUT THAT...

Implicit in this argument is a kind of assumption that the ruling class will remain closed to all but those currently in it.. it seems to me.

Is the whole idea of the melting pot a BIG LIE? Evidently!

This bodes very badly for the future of the US - or at least, for the future of the 90% of us that didn't attend the right schools, (Ivy League, average cost $30,000/year) attend the right church, (sorry, no -insert your special interest group here- ) are not the right color or sex, or class, etc.. You know, we 'special interests' - under GOP 'occupation'!

Don't get me wrong, I AM saying that ALL of us are America. Them, us , ALL of us who live here and CARE. (If they DON'T CARE, conversely, perhaps they are opting out of AMERICA??? They certainly should NOT be IN THE GOVERNMENT!)

What a perverse logic for the future is implicit in their line. How depressing our future looks under them. How hopeless.

This LITTLE group tries to twist our values to their own aims - making them the reverse of everything they REALLY are all about, and claim all that is worth anything, forever, withdrawing all hope for others who don't attend their little party, and make all the decisions for ALL OF OUR future.. then America IS being OCCUPIED. By a FOREIGN power. Those without hearts.

Its like 'The Invasion of the Pod People'

Coming from some frozen world, they just dont get America. They don't care about inclusiveness or shared dreams or real, uncontrolled, unspinned democracy. All they care about are their narrow little interests, like making sure that they reap all the benefits of government but dont put anything back into society, even if it means the rest of us are frozen out of the American dream, permanently. In fact, they love that idea, because then they can say 'I told you so', these people are failures.. (instead of merely not inhyeritors of great wealth)

they would steal OUR inheritance, FREEDOM, and replace it with a FAKE.

We need to communicate this DIFFERENCE in profound ways. because in its essence, its the difference between republicans (as in Platos 'Republic' - government by a tiny elite) and Democrats.

between thouse who have nothing but contempt for most of us (the 'mob' as they call it) and those who have faith in the common sense and shared interests of all mankind.

Between prosperity and balanced growth and improved health and technological progress for everyone in the world - and a profoundly amoral and evil greed that ultimately could - no, I say WILL lead us to GENOCIDE. And global war.

Our lives depend on this. Our nation does also.

What do we do? Wake up! Win.

Especially- we need to take back democracy from those who would prostitute it. The only way we can make that point is through the ballot box. Short term, here is one good goal..

We DESPERATELY need CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM ON A MASSIVE SCALE NOW.

Corporations should not be allowed to steal their stockholders money and use it to bribe..uh, hire, uh, payoff, uh, 'contribute' to POLITICIANS...

Democracy is threatened.

These arrogant, greedy, perversely dishonest people are not entitled to steal our futures.

They will KILL us.. without batting an eye.. after weakening us for the slaughter by years of nibbling away our lives, 'atomizing' us, as Hannah Arendt said.. in her classic "The Origins of Totalitarianism' (READ THIS BOOK)

Do we want to end up like France, but much much worse?

Thats what they are pushing us towards.. class warfare and ultimately, genocide of the 'unneeded' poor as options disappear for the vast majority of Americans, bit by bit, as jobs are deskilled and exported, and then, in response ('why train people for jobs that dnt exist?') public education defunded.

There is NO FUTURE without ECONOMIC VIABILITY. They are treating America and Americans as if it and we were an occupied colony.. RAPING us.

THAT IS THEIR GOAL

What gives them that right? Lies?

They're Conservatives, What Do You Expect? (none / 0)

They still regard elected government as an inconvenience, at best. More like an impertinance.

No Paul, they are not "conservatives," they are neocons. I don't agree with the conservative approach, but it's the neocon outlook that is truly fascist.

France is a very strange place. Life there is most unpleasant and chaotic for the unwealthy. I remember the train from Italy going to France, with the entire floor of the passenger car three-deep in the drunken back-ends of French farmers. And the professors there will not speak directly with anyone remotely associated with the common swine (middle class). And the waiters spit on all Americans. (They think their elitishism to be so superior to ours, you know.)

A Wee Bit Of History (none / 0)

American conservatives were enthusiastic supporters of Hitler and Mussolini in the 1930s. They backed McCarthy in the 1950s. They supported segregation. They opposed the women's movement. The list goes on and on. There imaginary sharp dividing line between neocons and other cons is the stuff of dreams.

And the last time my sister & her husband went to France, the waiters were extremely sympathetic for her wretched fate to have to be an American at this point in history.

So, uh, I don't know how to put this delicately, but, maybe it's just you.

Well, tolerance would start with the waiters, wouldn't it? It sure as hell wouldn't start with the French professors!

Alas! (none / 0)

My sister did not encounter a single professor waiting tables in France.

Clearly, they are arrogant beyond measure!

Re: Alas! (none / 0)

The simple reality is that the French professors tend to be insanely arrogant, whether they wait tables or not.

To my knowledge, it was mainly a group of wealthy neocons that really supported Hitler. We are dealing in words, and words are almost never as precise as they appear to be. I should think you would have caught on by now that there are millions of Americans who buy into a baroque, conservative style of thinking, and who would never think of supporting the atrocities of those like Hitler. You talk as if you have some sort of an "inside track" on history, etc. You do not.
